Virat Kohli made his cricket debut in October 2002, with the Under-15 team of Delhi in the 2002-03 Polly Umrigar Trophy. Later, he was selected for the Under-17 team of Delhi for the 2003-04 Vijay Merchant Trophy where he became the highest run-scorer.

Kohli made his debut in the Under-19 team of India for England tour in July 2006. India won both the Test series and ODI against England. After that, Virat made his T20 debut in 2007 and became the highest run-scorer in the Inter-State T20 Championship with 179 runs.

The year 2008 was the breakthrough year for Virat Kohli as he captained the Under-19 team of India. In the same year, he was bought by IPL (Indian Premier League) team RCB (Royal Challengers Bangalore) for $30,000.
