Fred Savage’s film career began with the comedy-drama ‘The Boy Who Could Fly’ in 1986. Nick Castle wrote and directed the film, which is about a fourteen-year-old girl who loses her terminally ill father and her autistic friend, played by Savage. The film was not a commercial success, but it received mostly positive reviews. The film also earned Fred a ‘Young Artist Award’ for Best Supporting Actor, the first in his career.

In 1986, he began his television career by playing supporting roles in the popular series “The Twilight Zone.” The program aired on the CBS network from 1985 until 1989, which extended to three seasons. He appeared in the lead role in the short film “Dinosaurs: A Fun-Filled Trip Back in Time!” in 1987. ‘The Princess Bride’, an adventure fantasy film based on William Goldman’s novel of the same name, starred him in the same year.
